SITE works to remove barriers, creates solutions and expand possibilities so people with sight loss can achieve their full potential.
SITE envisages a world where people with sight loss have equal access and opportunities to reach their goals.
Whether you want to gain new or develop existing skills, move on to further or higher education, enhance job prospects, or to increase your confidence and motivation, we will work with you to maximise your potential.
Our aim is to work in partnership with stakeholders, employers and training providers to offer an inclusive environment, which will demonstrate the abilities and potential of blind and partially sighted people.
As a Scottish charity and Disabled Persons User Led Organisation (DPULO) we want to expand possibilities for people with sight loss. Our support and intervention comes from a sight loss perspective – given that the majority of our Management Committee and volunteers have a visual impairment we believe we are best placed to provide the support that the sight loss community requires whether it is challenging inequalities, addressing accessibility or leading in the provision of new technologies that make the lives of those of us with sight loss a little easier.
Our programmes directly address the most pressing needs of people with sight loss and their families.
We provide the support necessary for people with sight loss to participate in society and maximise the potential which we all have – this is achieved by personal support sessions, workshops and events.
In the private and public sector we strive to raise awareness of the issues facing people with sight loss. We offer publications, workshops, training events and courses to educate professionals and others involved in supporting people with sight loss.
We continually strive to offer choice for people with sight loss – we were the first third sector organisation to provide training to Apple staff in the UK and offer training on the use of iPhones, iPods, and iPads. Now the sight loss community has choice in many areas of technology that we promote and which we strive to meet the needs of all individuals with sight loss.
